About Greg B.
I have worked in the education sector for 20 years, the first 16 years for an independent school and the last 4
years as the Trust Payroll Manager for 2 different multi academy trusts. In April 2019, whilst working at New
Hall School, I successfully implemented the full transfer of the payroll function (including pensions
administration) for Messing Primary School (New Hall School's sponsored academy) to New Hall from Essex
Payroll. Following the transfer, I was responsible for overseeing the day to day running of Messing's payroll
alongside that of New Hall, and had to learn the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document and the and
'Green Book' for support staff terms and conditions. After deciding I would like to work in the state education
sector,
I joined South West Essex Community Education Trust (SWECET) as Trust Payroll Manager. In this role I was
responsible for the payroll for 6 schools (3 Secondary and 3 Primary) for approximately 800 employees and line
managed the Payroll Officer. This included processing new starters, changes to contracts and the awarding of
TLRs, processing parental leave (including SMP, SPP and ShPP) and leavers on the trust's HR system. As
SWECET used a payroll bureau, all overtime was collected from the schools, checked that it was authorised
correctly before being sent to the payroll bureau for processing. Before authorising the payrolls, I reviewed the
variance report for all of the school's noting the cause of each variance. The variance reports were then
reviewed by the HR Director before final submission to the bureau. The trust's employees were paid on three
different pay days which meant that I had to use my strong organisational skills to ensure all the different
deadlines were met to ensure payment on time. I assisted the HR Director with the annual performance
management cycle, creating schedules detailing employees' eligibility for pay progression including teachers'
threshold applications, to be presented to Trustees at their Pay Committee.
In August 2023 I joined The Chelmsford Learning Partnership as their Trust Payroll Manager to run their in
house payroll. I am currently responsible for processing the monthly payroll for over 1,100 employees across 4
secondary schools, 7 primary schools and the central team. In addition to the processing of the payroll, I am
responsible for the administration of all aspects of the Teachers' Pension Scheme and the Essex Pension
Scheme. This includes submitting teachers' service via Monthly Contribution Reconciliation to Teachers'
Pensions and support staff service via Essex Pensions monthly returns and breakdown of contributions vis
PN11s. I also prepare the End of Year Certificate (EOYC) for Teachers' Pensions and am the point of contact for
the annual audit of the EOYC. Since I started at The Chelmsford Learning Partnership, the Trust has acquired

four additional schools, 1 secondary and 3 primary. Probably my biggest achievement since joining the trust has
been successfully onboarding these schools to the trusts payroll platform (Edupay), the transfer of employees'
pension records and ensuring that everyone was paid accurately and on time.
